Silent Classrooms

Physically present mentally absent

Daydreaming, lost, sleepy stares

Words going through one ear to next

A mutual boredom shared

Sudden starts when the speaker calls

Struggles to start paying attention

Pages turning until last in counts

A common feeling of dejection

Tick tock goes the clock

On and on time rolls on

"Oh when will this period end?!"

The next class shouts on

Anticipation of the next period

"What lunch did I bring today?"

Reflecting wristwatches off walls

This is the scene everyday

A sudden wave of giggles ensue

The spell of silence broken

But it is only momentary

For only the bell holds the power to awaken..
