Silence

By Vipul Sehgal

Waking up to a deafening start.

The clock's blaring

on and on.

So starts the cacophony,

of multitudes en masse

and alone.

The perpetual string of gaudy smiles,

of bogus laughs and hollow cries,

streams into the ears;

Just lies.

Stacking up, in and about,

Clogging all the recesses,

Drowning the mind,

absent cries.

Proceeding on with the clamor-

the bards of the seamless faiths.

Persevering the con,

and on goes the sham.

Trapping far into the shadows,

The meek, the gentle, the docile-

the lambs.

Dies down with the light,

Finally,

comes to an end the awful din.

The birds, the bards, the beasts

go quiet.

Enveloped in a sheen of peace,

the ferry to the realm of sleep,

comes the night.

Bringing to life the demons inside-

the myriad of broken dreams,

And begins their diurnal descent,

Their endless soliloquy.

Sinking further in the quagmire,

I crave some silence around.

And silence around

is all I pray.
