Shooting Star

I was walking through a dingy street at night

There was this unsettling feeling consuming my mind

But my heart kept consoling that everything was alright.

Seeking answers to all my unsought questions,

My gaze went up to the hidden star lit sky

And suddenly a shooting star was passing by.

I closed my eyes and made a wish

I wished for your happiness,

And for our love to last forever

Feeling content I opened my eyes

Only to realize that shooting star was nowhere in sight.

Finally I reached home to you

I wanted to tell you about the strange feeling in my mind,

I wanted to tell you about the shooting star ,

And what I wished from it that night

But when I opened the door with the keys I had This unsettling feeling kept increasing. As each second passed.

My stomach dropped to my stomach

The lights were out, room went silent

You weren't home

I hoped and assumed,

I called for you in a hopeful voice

I could hear my heart but not you

There was a deafening silence

Throughout the house .

This place was cold, lifeless

Unlike the home it used to be

I fumbled with the lights For my hands trembled .

Something felt wrong

And out of place

I frantically looked around

But you were nowhere to be found.

And then

My eyes fell on a note

On our bedside table,

Besides a picture of us

"I'm leaving for good", It said.

No explanations.

No apologies.

I felt numb as I fell on the floor

The shooting star couldn't make my wish come true.
