Shivers

‘It’s D-day! Ready?’ our chief military commander asked. ‘Born ready,’ we replied, our voices trembling and dripping with uncertainty. I made a commitment to myself. A pact signed on the very soil of my country. I had to fight- and die knowing that I was loyal to my country. A sudden wave of nausea flooded through me as I took my first step into the zone of fire. The obstacles were plenty, odds myriad. Was I really ready to do this?
