Shells From Heaven

A soft zephyr brushed my face as the warm grains of sand stuck to my wet feet. The sun rose towards the heart of the sky, casting a warm glow on the transparent water. It was a pleasant afternoon on the beach, salty scents filled my nose. The perennial sound of waves hitting the shore blessed my ears. Just then, a glow caught my eyes. The tide pulled back further than it ever had before and I rushed towards the glow. A loud gasp escaped my throat as I realised what it was that I saw - shells. Luminous shells, pulsing with a faint blue light, a humming sound resonating with each pulse. My heart raced at the sight of these magical objects, their beauty like something I’d never witnessed before. In that moment, as the glow of the shells filled my eyes, the saccharine scent of my surroundings filled the labyrinth of my nostrils and the warm humming of the shells provided bliss to my ears, I realised what if felt to cast a gaze upon pieces of heaven itself. The familiar sound of waves hitting the shore returned, as cold water embodied the surface of my feet, pooling around my ankles. And with the next tide, the shells were gone. I thanked the sea for allowing me to experience such a phenomenon. A smile appeared on my face as I walked back, the sun’s warm rays comforting my body as I allowed the moment to engrave itself deep into my memories.
