She Was My Friend

A glitter in her eyes when she saw me,

With her hands waving in warm embrace,

A grace in her endearing smile,

And a childish joy in her soulful voice.

She welcomed the dejected me,

From the sea of gloom and affliction,

Awakening my lifeless forlorn spirit,

Into the realms of solace and affection.

She held my hand like the nonpareil,

And pulled me out of my dreary dark shell,

Twining the constellation of happiness,

That lit up my shrouded world of darkness.

She’d remind me to care for myself,

With loads of love in her gentle reserve.

She was a blazing meteor of light herself,

Yet named me the 'Tyndall ray' of sunshine.

A guiding light with the love of a sister,

She lent me a hand in pitch darkness.

“Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder”

She’d say whenever I lauded her kindness.

She loved to draw feathers on my hand,

Which I’d never efface, a gentle souvenir-

Of the presence of my beloved friend,

In subtle echoes of a lifelong essence.

Yet destiny furcates the blissful crossroad,

Parading disparate paths for its sole beings,

I sadly find no feathers on my hand...

but only wings on my arms, to find new allies.
