Shadows
By Tanush Bhatnagar
Dark, shallow, fake, restricted
Making souls feel conflicted
This drastic tinted figure below
Is called a shadow
Dark as the night
It stalks us in bright
Dim? It disappears
Light? It feeds on our fears
Shallow as it scales the land
Changing its psyche
Often short while sometimes grand
Or anything we might like
Fake as a sand mirage
Captivating souls into
Falling for its illusion
Giving in for pointless salvation
In prison truly restricted
As they serve to our body addicted
Draining out our vitality steadily
Not even death can part us sadly
Wise men were dishonest
When they said “Shadows
Must be best companions”
After all they are yet
Just scavengers for us.
