Semi-Confession
By Subhagata Chowdury
The gondola has been fraught,
The evening star has been sought.
No way on earth it can turn its bow,
Cause the oar has struck the waters now.
With love untold it sways along,
To keep a secret I sing a lovelorn song.
“Darling, please accept this rose I brought,
I don’t know if you ring the same or not.
But, please know it isn’t a normal rose,
For none will feel my heart this close!
I have nurtured it with all my being,
With this I’ve given you my life string!
But if you don’t like this gift of mine,
If it isn’t approved by your heart and mind,
Please gently pass the rose to me,
For the thorns on it can cut very deep.
But by providence, if you say yes!
If you accept this love I confess-
Then dear lady know in your heart,
That you and I are breaths apart.”
The song ran wild, the song ran deep,
But I haven’t got any promises to keep.
So I’ll take my time in revealing this,
For haste might fling me in the abyss.
The thirst for love, the thirst for pain,
Are something humans can’t really tame.
My thirst for love and my love for you,
Is something that I can’t undo.
