Self Worth
By Viren Gohil
"We are not born with a perfect self worth"
We are not born with a perfect self worth,
We learn from the outside world,
How to feel about ourselves.
This is because we learn our self worth from those around us who judge us, Inspire us, Admire us, Aspire to be like us.
We might need words of encouragement from those around him or her.
We might need to be treated with respect or love.
But if they were not there,
If they did not exist in the first place,
We would not feel the need for it in ourselves.
Unknown to us we may have a self worth,
But it is not something we think about.
It is not very important in our lives,
To us at least.
They are not aware of their self worth,
Because they do not know it is there.
It does not bother them,
so why should I?
Why should I even bother questioning it,
When they are not bothered with their self worth either.
Why should I question my self worth when they are not,
When they do not even think of questioning their own?
Even though we don't think about our own self worth,
It is within us.
We may not think of our self worth every day,
But that does not mean it is not there.
It means that we are human,
And just like everyone else,
We have an understanding of our self worth.
It is not something we think about,
But it is there.
Even if we were to be judged by those around us,
We would still know our self worth.
It is something that we are born with,
Even if it does not matter to us in the beginning.
One day it will become important to understand who we truly are,
And when that time comes,
Our self worth will be achieved.
Just like you have already achieved yours by reading this poem.
