See Through
By Shalini C
My eyes drift to the jewel encrusted mirrors behind the glass
I see myself staring back at me, longing for something
I wonder can others see me too?
Am I the mirror or am I glass?
Can the world see me or am I see through?
I turn and walk down the street, to my workplace
I sit at the edge of my seat and dart around
Everyone’s either engrossed in those tiny rectangular boxes
Which somehow emit light or having a good time with their friends.
My heart winces when I see a bunch of gals giggling and chatting.
I wonder how that feels like.
How is it that in a crowd full of people,
I still feel alone?
I so desperately want them to talk to me
So I pass a comment then attempt to make a joke
They jerk around a bit and went back to their conversation
Did they hear me? I think.
Although I know the answer to that all too well
They see, they hear, they ignore.
The story of my life
Can you see me?
I am perfect
Perfectly broken
Can you hear me?
My speech is clear
Clearly inaudible
I see myself staring back at me from
The depths of a river
I wonder, can you see me too?
Or am I see through?
