Entwined Hearts

As we hold our hands together

our fingers entwined in one another

laying on the lush evergreen grass

cold yet strangely warm

our hearts in rare truce,

calm before the storm.

Lying beneath the ever tranquil starry night

the moon twinkles at us,

taking in this magnificent sight.

As we gaze towards the heavens,

drawn like a moth towards a distant moon

the stars sing out our story in a euphoric tune.

Worried for our future

uncertain like the erratic rainfall of June.

I ask the clever moon for advice

it gives me a knowing look,

as if that will suffice.

The beauty of the night seems to mock me

reminding me of what we'll never have.

I only wish to be free,

from the shackles that keep us apart
