Sacrifice

By Safa Faruq

I listened to you brag about her,

When all I ever was wanted to be seen.

I wish I was her.

But, will she ever love you the way I have been?

You talked about her laughs,

sunshine in springtime.

You talked about her eyes,

ocean in the nighttime.

So many words to describe,

but none to say how I feel.

You’ll look at me one day, maybe,

and feel the need to kneel.

I wish I were the one you hold,

to feel your love, to have it grow old.

But alas, I fear I am nothing but a dream,

doomed to forever live in this theme

I'll keep silent, and hide my pain,

and watch from afar, in vain.

I may never win your heart,

my love for you, my dearest friend, shall never part.
