Road Ahead
By Adit Vyas
Near the mud walls, near a roof of chaff,
lies a broad road, in a barren land.
Sitting there a boy, on a milestone reads
Pune ahead 95.
The broad road, in the barren land,
Some pairs of eyes drive by, all half dozing by.
Sits me near the window gazing seamlessly at the passersby.
Weathered looks and torn skin,
gazing endlessly at the out beyond that lies,
Throat dries, wind dies, clouds leave,
shrieks the sun on the head high.
Sits a boy on a milestone reads
pune ahead 95.
A hand slips, a cushion slides,
The vinyls roll up and the sleeps thrive.
Earphones in and a book on the thighs,
sits me near the window gazing seamlessly at the passersby.
Truck passes emitting smoke,
Submerging all behind that lie.
Yet in the haze, still with a gaze,
sits a boy on a milestone reads
pune ahead 95.
The journey goes and i look by,
same eyes and same frames,
what may differ is only names.
Gazing endlessly at the other side,
as if my reflection and yet not mine.
A fraction of a second and the car drives by,
leaving behind the milestone, I read
pune ahead 95.
