Reminiscences
By Jaweria Fatima Mohammed
Walking down the serene slopes
I stumbled upon a familiar road.
Felt your gaze on me from a distance
But when I looked up I felt resistance.
Even when we met for that brief minute
All we could ever do was smile endlessly
You see, rainbow colours are a fantasy.
I flip through another moment
Gate crashing yet another time
Oblivious to what lies ahead of me
Yet my expression suggests this moment to be sublime.
It’s a bit unfair, don’t you think?
How our lives alter with every blink
But I have it painted in my mind.
Every word. Every line.
From when we yelled “It’s going down”
Or simply dangled our arms around.
You were my first and all the rest
Just like unfamiliar first encounters are the best.
