Recovery From The Leg Break

By Rajeev Nair

You can break my bone, but not my will,

Lend an ear to this rap and eyes to the skill.

Grounded for long, I wana go for the kill,

One a penny two a penny shot up my bill!

I see this tall, beautiful lady bold and wise,

Stepping out of her car, oh my God in disguise,

Head on the lap and broken foot on the rise,

Fanatic behind the wheels jeering down thrice!!

An Ambulance awaits, never witnessed this scene,

Fiancée held my hand saying life is not mean,

I could scream so loud venting out my spleen,

I hate to halt, why won’t the signal turn green??

On a hospital bed I see my mom weep,

Be rest assured momma, they won’t drill the screws deep!

This too shall pass she said, amidst all the noisy beep,

Remember son ‘as you sow, so shall you reap!

As we all looked for help in the darkest mine,

Didn't fail to show up as the clock ticks past nine!

My sister’s wishes came along in time,

Holding a place of a gem, an irreplaceable lifeline!

My surgeon wearing a blue apron comes in with his crew,

You won't walk any sooner boy, that’s my pre-surgery view!

Just don't lose hope he said there’s always the sun after a rain,

Chuck it all aside doctor when can I score a goal again?

5 hours of merciless piercing, oh my legs are numb,

I still wanted to watch it all live am such a curious dumb!

Steel plates hold my bones in place, I start to feel giddy,

Wish you were here to hold my hand I can’t see you daddy!

A wheelchair to tow me home, friends giggling to glory,

Some called me a savage while some hailed my story,

That day marked the start on a road to recovery,

A bunch of thanks to all who helped me bury my worry!

After 3 Months –

Reunion with my peers at work I am so glad,

Thank you for holding me from heavens dad.

The time I spent at home with a broken bone,

Happiness knows no bounds as I stand up on my own!

Reunion with my peers I am so amused,

Stealing away my time this injury is theft accused!

Working under a roof was all day fun,

I thank you all for being my rising sun!

Lost is the time that’s never going to come,

Thank you for your shoulders, I love you mum!

Sat up the whole night thinking of misdeeds,

Wondered why life would bite the hand that feeds!

I run out of words to describe my bedridden days,

Now this is part of my destiny in all the ways.

I complained of the thunder inside and breath-taking pain,

How would I even travel across, please stop this mighty rain!

Things looked gloomy and am dropping these bars

Fear of not walking loomed with every ticking hour!

My team fought hard, in filling up my void

This pulls me out of agony I am no longer destroyed!

I am back on my feet oh Lord small things count,

My wonderful peers oh lord Lion with a mount!

I don’t need seven colors to make a heavenly rainbow,

Just my peers saying- ‘Brother see you again tomorrow’.
