Quotients Of Life

By Rajendra Galagali

We all have heard that Albert Einstein is one among the people with high IQs. But do we know the real meaning of IQ or anything related to it? There is a big NO as the answer to this question. So, let's try to catch the idea of Quotients very quickly in this mini blog.

IQ

Intelligence quotient is the measurement of a human's global capacity to act purposefully, to think rationally and to deal effectively to a given environment or atmosphere.

In simple words it is the capacity of a child to learn anything by observing.

EQ

Emotional quotient is the ability of a human to understand, use and manage his or her own emotions in positive ways to relieve stress, communicate effectively, empathize with others to overcome challenges and defuse conflicts.

If not in psychologist's words, it means that it is secured feeling felt by a child in the arms of its mother.

IQ or EQ?

If you go and ask some teacher or someone who is academically involved with something, he/she will definitely tell you to work on your IQ but according to studies it has been known that IQ can be increased by only the age of 5. So, then what we are left with is EQ, the emotional part of our life that can be groomed in such a way that it can help our IQ to be at its utmost use or 100% efficient. If we think it can't be achieved then we are wrong. As we have already mentioned about Mr. Einstein, let’s look at his life. If you observe, all his huge efforts in his life had been around the Emotional Quotient which had immensely helped him to improve his IQ to the highest levels.

Both aspects of the Quotient are important but if you study or research about them you will get know that EQ has little more important role to play in the lives as it can be improved at every stage of life. The process of improvement has been told in the definition of EQ itself.

If we just learn how to build empathy with someone, we are already the people with better EQ.

So, let's learn to empathize.
