Quiet Moments of Impact

There are loud blasts

booms,

sirens,

followed by alerts.

Shrapnel on verges.

Holes in concrete walls.

Smoke trails in the air.

Between fear,

unknown, uncertainty,

quiet testaments

are found.

Delivery drivers stop mid-ride

removing debris from the road.

Highway signs we pass

state: ‘here we are, as one’.

Defence force soldiers

waiting quietly.

Armoured vehicles in the sun.

Quieter moments.

Equal impact.

Holding until it passes.
