Quiet Acceptance

Sometimes I am not happy with who I am,

and even as I notice this,

I know better.

In my mind, I am still quick,

bright with energy,

moving easily through the day.

In my body, things take longer.

Tiredness arrives without asking.

Motivation waits before it answers.

I wish I had learned some things earlier,

as if time were a lesson

I might have practiced more carefully.

I wish certain skills had grown with me from childhood,

instead of arriving now,

slowly,

with effort.

When I meet myself honestly,

tears sometimes rise,

not from failure,

but from seeing clearly.

I miss the eight-year-old me.

I miss the thirteen-year-old me.

The ones whose timing felt natural,

whose speed belonged to the body

without thought.

They say these years are golden.

I am learning that gold

is not brightness,

but weight.

Not shine,

but depth.

Regret comes quietly.

I let it sit beside me

without asking it to leave.

It does not need an argument.

I am still active.

I still love movement,

work,

family,

the feel of effort in the day.

Some things simply take longer now.

And knowing better means this:

I do not need to hurry myself

into acceptance.

I am allowed to arrive

at my own pace.
