Am Proud to Be Born Punjabi

Not because my history is louder than yours…

But because my history taught me

to stand for others.

I come from a land

where hands first learned to fold in prayer, and then to serve in Langar.

I belong to the soil

where mustard fields bloom,

but hearts bloom even brighter.

Where one word,“Waheguru”…

has carried broken hearts

through the darkest nights

and led them back to hope.

I come from the house of the Gurus…

where a crown was never worn

without first carrying the burdens of others.

A path that teaches…

Conquer your ego,

before you dream

of conquering the world.

Do not ask,

“Who are you?”

Ask instead,

“How may I serve you?”

I am the child of a legacy..

that stood for another’s right to worship freely even when the price was everything.

My inheritance was never gold.

It was Seva.

It was Sarbatt da Bhala.

Courage-without hatred.

Strength-without cruelty.

Faith-without fear.

Punjab… is not merely a place on a map.

It is a spirit..

that cannot watch a stranger go hungry… cannot stay silent before injustice… and cannot walk away from someone in need.

If one day,someone asks me,

“What is your greatest pride?”

I won’t speak of kingdoms.

Or victories.

Or bloodlines.

I’ll simply smile… and say…

I was born where faith became courage. And courage became compassion.

And compassion became the identity of a people. I am proud to be born Punjabi.

And if my life reflects even a fraction

of the light shown by the Gurus,

that…will be “my greatest honour.”
