"Pretty but not pretty enough", a stranger in

passing had once said

His words ran deep, resonated through every

corner of my head

I wasn't the girls in magazines, with gorgeous

smiles and perfect hair

I never really came close, though I'd still

constantly compare

I tried to be what was asked of me, molded

myself for society

Drunk on expectations, left crumbling in

wakes of sobriety

I caked on layers of make-up,

tried on a million dresses at least

Yet I still didn't feel like Beauty, just the

monster they called beast

I know I'm not perfect, that's never what I

wished to be

I just wanted a reflection to look at, one l

didn't resent with every piece of me
