Poplar Trees:

We've spent years

Decades on a poplar tree

We would graft the bark asunder

And pluck out its leaves in every whisper

We would stumble across the wayward path

To a little home, drunk lovers we were

Scrape our foot on muddy sand

Wish for a coin every time we fell

Every time we laughed till sunset came

We would kiss each other on clouded nights

'Fraid the bumblebees would swarm 'round

And see our naked hides

We wore, carved into our skin

Even on clouded nights where not another sees

We've spent years,

Decades on the poplar tree

Scraping our hands 'round its bark

And like dresses we buy on a whim

And forget next night.

It's colours;so vibrant, stars shone brighter

To match the cloth of that little dress

Then forgotten in a day

Hear of that dress no more

We've spent years,

Decades under a quiet tree

Her face was like a canvas to fill

Her name— my lips have forgotten her taste
