To Every Mariam Jo, Who Kept Burning

Some women are born like candles.

Placed quietly in corners of the world

expected to burn without complaint.

Their tears fall slowly

like wax down their faces

each drop carrying a story

no one cared to hear.

They are told endurance is love,

silence is virtue,

and suffering is destiny.

Yet like Mariam,

They keep burning.

Not because the world was kind to them,

but because somewhere in their fragile light

someone else finds warmth.

And while the world only sees a candle melting away,

It never understands how much strength it takes for a woman to keep giving light

While she slowly disappears.
