Poem of Metaphors
By Amatullah Padghawala
I surfed the ocean for seahorses,
And found nothing but fishes,
As I pulled the fish net out,
I caught the fishes in dismay.
Is there a way to make life work in your favour?
Or does life always have something else to offer?
I stood on the stage orating,
But found some distracted eyes,
Some listened while some whispered,
I wonder what they were thinking of me.
Is there a way to satisfy people completely?
Or will they always be displeased solemnly?
While eating my favourite bun,
As I dropped the tomato sauce,
It dirtied the mattress and made me squeal,
However, never did I blame the sauce but myself.
Is there a way to stop blaming others for our difficulties?
Or have we made this as one of the satisfactory hobbies?
As the moon shone brightly,
I peeped through the telescope to observe it in awe,
As I zoomed further to get a better understanding,
'Nothing can be judged without critical analysis', my lips moved.
Is there a way to not judge anyone without knowledge?
Or are we accustomed to being savage?
The floods reached their peak,
Thousands drowned in the ocean of ignorance,
When the turmoil stopped everyone wondered,
Where had we been wrong?
Is there a way to teach them to accept new ideas as they come?
Or are we too comfortable to reject the brilliant some?
No bird or animal is superior to the other,
Neither is the moon superior to the sun,
As I raised my question to the heavens,
'Everything is significant', a voice said.
Is there a way to assign equal status to everyone?
Or are we dividing to become totalitarian?
Understanding is the key,
Love is the treasure,
Respect is the lock,
When used in rhythm,
The sunshine of hope can make a beautiful logarithm.
