Plastic

I wish we had

Lasted longer than it did

But we all wish for things, That are seldom fulfilled.

Do you remember that, You had me at hello?

I gave you everything I had

Put you on a pedestal

Just for you to leave me out there All cold and stranded.

No explanations, no apologies So many midnights have passed In regret, in sorrow.

I struggle to lay still in slumber For my tears soak through the pillowcase

That we used to share in our golden days.

The green morphed into a darker shade,

The tears fall incessantly

Leaving behind a trail of mascara stain.

I desperately search for my sleeping pills

In the darkness shrouding my bedroom

My only source, the rescue force

Opened every drawer in haste

Just to end these ceaseless blue days.

Ultimately, we all get addicted to something

That takes away our pain

Or numbs it temporarily,

My pills became the only thing

That could replace you

Failing to find the bottle anywhere

I close my eyes

Frustrated, exhausted

And then all hell breaks loose again.

An image keeps replying again and again,

Like a broken record in my mind

It's you with her

She's in your arms

Where I once belonged,

You abruptly look at me

And winked

Taunting me, breaking me apart.

I'm brought back to the present

By the sound of glass meeting the floor,

Similar to the broken promises you had made before.

I'm left vulnerable in this empty space

I'm left alone, battered, blue and aghast

All my frayed edges and scars

Feel like an open wound

All the pieces I struggled to find

Lost all meaning and worth

Finally, I find the plastic

My gateway away from the misery “Take one, put it under your tongue and let it take you on a journey” it said

So, I took five

And closed my eyes

Waiting for the effects to kick in

Just to make me sane once again.
