Pieces

Hair of steel cascading down her spine,

Paired with golden aqua eyes, now forever blind.

Her style borders on steampunk, but there is

A softness about her–a heart alight with bliss

Well known to her creator, whose own is hidden by design.

A raven gown, a golden mask,

A rigid perfectionism controls every task.

Her eyes are deeper than any sea;

Nonetheless, perfect was all she needed to be.

This desire, too, could be seen through my eyes of glass.

His laugh is contagious, he’s told he helps too much.

He’s loved by those whose hearts he’ll always touch.

But only he knows, and only he ever will,

That beneath the facade is a monster he’d tried to kill.

Familiar–the fake charm, and holding sanity in a desperate clutch.

Each character is their own tile,

In a mosaic of different profiles.

Each person is distinct; each a work of art,

But now, stepping back from a dozen beating hearts,

Reveals the shared image of one very familiar smile.

Each character I see can also see my face.

They all resemble me, but all come from a different place.

I open my eyes to a room of distorted mirrors.

A voice that was once mine is now fragmented whispers.

The pen drop echoes across the walls of this mirror maze.
