Title: Permission to Stop

I told myself I would be fine

and to be patient with time.

But people keep on asking,

"What in the world are you doing?" And it gets harder to say the same things on and on.

As I get older, my heart gets colder. Can't anyone hear these screams? They're so loud, they echo in my dreams.

I've been keeping busy

to forget about these burdens.

It helps, but they are still there- clawing and screaming,

these monsters of mine.

I'm getting tired of crying

and faking smiles.

For once, I want to let go.

I need someone to tell me,

"It's okay, let's stop for now."

Instead of,

"Let's keep trying, don't give up."

I don't want to lose myself,

to feel numb and just broken.

I need to get away and heal,

but these chains keep dragging me down. And I am left to wonder,

just how much time it takes... to be fine.
