Perfect Father

He did not kiss me

When I was born;

He was afraid

If his beard would scratch me.

He did not carry me

When I was an infant;

He was afraid

If his rough, hard-working hands would hurt me.

He never held my hands

While I learnt to walk;

For he knew

When I fell, I rose stronger.

He never taught me

How to talk;

For he knew

When I learn it myself, I learnt it better.

He did not buy dolls for me

The moment I asked for them;

For he knew when I longed for things,

They remained longer with me.

He didn’t accompany me

To school every-day;

For he knew – When I was independent

I became more confident.

He was never worried

If I would go wrong

Because he knew –

He never went wrong.

I was always disquiet

That I don’t have ‘the best dad’;

But now I have perceived

That I have ‘The perfect father’.
