PENIS ENLARGEMENT

There is no electricity in the compound, but still, in the dimly candlelight lit room, I sit in front of a cracked half body mirror and make my evening affirmations. “Tonight will be good, tonight will be blessed, tonight will be fun, and tonight will rain money.” I take a deep breath, scavenge my cosmetic bag for a red lipstick which I find, it’s almost completely used up, so I roll the stick up and stick my index finger in to take out what’s left and rub it on my lips.

“There!” I smile.

I spray my strawberry scented perfume over my body while walking around in an unorganized circle like movement, as I move, I let out 3 sneezes and pull down my black boob-tube dress, forcing its length to go beyond the base of my butt. The scent clings to my body as I step out into the night.

*

“How much for the night?” I try hard to sneak a look inside the car from which the man speaks while chewing my gum slowly and letting it roll from one side of my mouth to another.

“How much?” he sounds impatient, irritated even.

“K1000”

“Get in” he says, not looking at me, not giving a shit that I put so much effort in pulling out the last of my red lipstick, or that It took me an hour to gel up my 10inch hair to make a slick ponytail, or that to impress him I wore a freaking short boob tube dress in the freezing cold. I guess none of my efforts change the fact that I am a slut, so, I get in, wave the other girls’ goodbye but they do not wave back. They are angered, they abhor and resent me for consistently besting them by getting the first clients or the clients with the biggest potbellies and cars. This one though, rather seemed the opposite of my usual, he was gaunt, not old but with hollow cheeks and a distended belly. When I see the empty food packs in the back seat, I get an idea why.

“So where are we going?” I ask but he ignores me.

We travel for 30 minutes in utter silence till we get to a lodge, where when we get out of the car I follow behind him like his little sister, he doesn’t hold me, or look behind to see that I am following or that I am alright, he just walks, nonchalantly.

“Wait here” he commands, then walks into what is labeled as reception and in a few minutes, he walks out with keys dangling from his hands and continues walking straight on while I follow behind. The lodging rooms are lined horizontally, like classrooms. The surrounding looks unkempt, I look around and notice a litter drum with trash falling out, and I am just disgusted.

When he opens the door to the room, he walks in and without an invitation, I walk in too.

“What’s wrong?” He looks at me and then around the room and I guess the question is because of my facial expression.

I should say the room is stuffy, smelly and dusty but instead I say “Nothing” then proceed to sneezing twice.

He without saying a word proceeds to taking off his shoes, then his shirt and trouser to reveal a worn out boxer pant and skinny legs. When he gets into the beddings, I follow suit.

*

The buzzing sounds like a collection of well curated notes, like a beat to a song that I love, but in no time, it begins to fizzle. When I open my eyes, it’s a bee, settling quietly on the side table of the bed, I smile at it, it flies up and towards me. I begin to wave it away while sitting upright in the bed, just then, I hear more buzzing, like a distant sound becoming louder. A swarm of bees come flying through the door, in fear, I pull my bedding off my head and wake up perspiring.

The room is very bright despite the curtains being closed. I can feel my toes very tingly due to the heat in the beddings and so I pull and throw my legs over while figuring out what to say to the man who is all dressed up, standing and facing the curtains.

“I didn’t get your name”

“John. Your money’s on the side table” he turns to look at me.

From merely looking at the money I can tell it isn’t K1000.

“How much is this?” I look at him straight faced.

“Count it” he says, so I do.

“K500?”

“Yes” He responds while putting his cufflinks on.

“I said K1000”

“For a whole night, we didn’t have sex for a whole night”

“You still had me for a whole night”

“What were you going to do? Walk home at 2am?”

“I do not care your defense, you booked me for a full night and whether we had sex or not, whether you just felt by breath against your limp skin or whether you gave me attitude all night, I am owed a full k1000” I get up and throw my open palm at him.

“You should actually be happy I am paying you at all, I felt nothing” He pushes my palm aside.

“It’s because you have nothing” I grab my handbag and walk out enraged.

Out of the lodge, I realize, I do not know where I am. So I walk back in and ask John for a lift. He is quiet, so when he begins opening the door to the driver’s seat, I run hurriedly to the other side and lodge myself in the passenger’s seat.

*

When I am dropped at a station near my compound, I begin to walk slowly because my heels are painfully squeezing my toes toward each other, I’ve had these heels for over 5years and in that time period my toes seem to have fattened. A poster on a pole grabs my attention, so I read the big bolded words – PENIS ENLARGEMENT then squint my eyes to see what else is indicated from afar but I am still unable to read, so I move closer and read again – Penis Enlargement, and continues, Dr Nawa, specialist in effective, accredited penis enlargement, found next to old red shop. I look left and right before grabbing the paper off the pole and turning back to where I was coming from.

When I get to the old red shop, I get the poster from my bag and call the number indicated on it.

When Dr Nawa asks me to enter the black gate right next to the old red shop I feel shivers going down my spine. I turn back, then back again before finally deciding to go on.

I open the gate to a huge unpainted house, a normal looking man in a shirt made out of wrapper material and black trousers meets me out.

“Hai” I say unsurely “I am looking for Dr Nawa”

“Good afternoon, that’s me, you may come in” he is not what I was expecting, maybe I expected a man in a doctors coat, or more scary, or maybe I just didn’t expect him to be meeting me at the gate.

When in the house, I am directed toward an inner room, where I see pictures of a variety of people; men, women, children pinned to the wall, I look to the left side of the room and at a table packed with an assortment of items; combs, clothes, bras, shoes and jewelry. I am jolted when I hear the sound of a chicken that I see placed in the corner of the room, feet tied.

“Sit” Dr Nawa now sitting points at a small and square black mat opposite himself. Still unsure I want to do this, I hesitantly take the heels now burning my feet off and sit on my folded legs because my dress is too short.

Dr Nawa stares at me intently as I try to get comfortable, watching my fidgeting with what looks like irritation on his face, when I am well settled, he closes his eyes then stretches his hands toward me uttering inaudible words, unsure what to do, I stretch my hands to meet his but he slaps them aside then opens his eyes.

“What is your name?”

“Mwape”

“What can I do for you?”

I clear my throat, twice, then begin “I want his uhm, his Penis…… Enlarged, like verrrrrry enlarged”

“For good sex?” the Dr. asks.

“For impossible sex, like big he cannot have sex”

“A bad thing?”

“Yes, yes, a bad thing”

“Something that belongs to him?” Dr Nawa stretches his hand and I hand him a watch that I stole from John’s car to make up for the K500 short fall.

*

“Hi, hello” The lady’s voice emanating from a small Toyota catches me off guard, I look the other way, and don’t respond.

“Hey excuse me”

“I am sorry I don’t do women”

“Me neither” she walks out of her car to meet me “My husband thinks you bewitched him”

I sneeze three times “Who’s your husband?” I ask, then sneeze again “What perfume do you have on?”

“Listen girl, I’m not here to play around” I am not playing either, I am seriously reacting to her perfume.

“So who is your husband?”

“Do you bewitch all your clients?”

I let out a sly laugh then I am suddenly saddened because I can’t see his penis.

“What---does----it---look like?”

“If you do not undo what you have done to my husband, I will be back tomorrow night and trust me you do not want me here tomorrow”

I am a bit shaken but I stand upright and back to my business posture while she walks away and back into her car.

*

Back at Dr Nawa’s residence I am welcomed by his assistant who ushers me to the room, Dr Nawa’s eyes are closed and I am not sure what to do because I am left only with him in the room.

“Dr Nawa, Dr Nawa” I whisper. He does not look. I squat right opposite him and push my head slowly toward him, as if he were waiting for this particular moment he opens his eyes and we meet 2 inches away from each other.

“Sorry, uhm, I need you to reverse the spell,” I clear my throat “I need you to take his uhm, penis, back to its original size”

“K500” he places a bowl right in front of me.

I am not willing to pay K500, neither was I expecting it, I gave him a watch and a K500, how does that not suffice. Why does he want more? What was he using the money for? His clothes are ordinary, his house is barely furnished, it’s huge but the floor isn’t smoothed nor are the walls painted.

“I do not have K500, I thought….”

“Go”

“What”

“Go!”

“Will his thing be forever big…”

“Gooo!!”

I scamper out, and for some reason, my heart is beating really fast and I can feel myself engulfed in fear.

*

“My husband’s penis is still enlarged” she shouts while banging closed the door to her car.

“I didn’t promise I’d have it reversed” I look straight in her eyes while hiding my fear

“Ok”

Before I realize it, she pulls out a huge scissors from her bag and cuts off half my hair.

“Huh” I exhale, “What----have----you-----done?”

“I’ve cut off your hair” she waves the bunch in my face

“GIVE.ME.BACK.MY HAIR!”

She turns her back to leave but I jump on her back “GIVE.BACK.MY.HAIR!”

The ladies surround us and chant that the other lady beat me up, calling me stupid, entitled and in need of whooping.

I hold tight onto her while on her back. She turns and turns in effort to yank me off her. When all her efforts fail, she falls backward onto the ground, having me hit the ground first.

“Ouch!” I shout “Ouch, bitch.”

She gets on top of me and begins to slap me, I slap her too, enraged. It quickly turns into a slap fest that lasts till our arms and hands are tired. The ladies are exhausted by us, they rush towards two vehicles that stop by and begin auctioning themselves.

When we are tired, we remain sitting on the ground, each breathing heavily, waiting for our heartbeats to return to normal. A ding on her phone that’s fallen to the ground lights up her screen to reveal a girl.

“That your daughter?” I curiously ask.

“Yes”

“She’s beautiful” I pick up her phone and hand it over to her “Just like mine”.

“Thankyou”

“I’ll have his dick returned to normal, if you leave him” I say.

“What?”

“Your daughter will not go for a good man like her dad, and that’s if he’s a good dad, she will go for a man like the one that treated her mother bad, she see’s everything” she’s quiet, doesn’t look at me, doesn’t blink, doesn’t move an inch.

“He isn’t worth it? He isn’t worth you, worth us fighting, worth my hair, he isn’t worth Jack”

“What will I be without him?” she says almost to herself.

“Who you were before him or who you could have been without him” I turn to face her “You aren’t mad at me, you are mad and angry at your husband….and yourself. And this is my way of helping”

I get up, dust the dirt off my skimpy blue dress and offer my hand to the stranger whose name I do not know.
