Pause. Who is she?

Do you not recognise her? She is the first person whom you share a bond with. She is the reason behind your smile when you read her texts. She is your reminder that you are right where you should be.

This August, 2026, South Africa celebrates National Women’s Month in lieu of August 9, 2026, National Women’s Day. This date marks the 70th anniversary of South African women’s equality and justice. This month is a reminder to pause and recognise the important women in life. She may be a mother to some, a wife to another, or a daughter of a home. Whoever she is, take a moment to understand and appreciate her.

What makes her a woman?

Identifying a woman goes far beyond simply recognising a familiar appearance. Women may come in all colours, shapes and sizes. They all share a similar unspoken responsibility to protect, nurture and care. Her attention to detail and resilience often goes unnoticed.

Why is she the woman you know?

The woman you know may be soft spoken or loud, easy-going or strict. However you know her to be, remember that she is shaped by her experiences and struggles. What does that mean? It means even when the world chooses to be harsh to her, she chooses kindness over vengeance. It means she does what she does in her daily life not because she has to but because she wants to.

Reminder

She deserves respect. She does it all, and with integrity. She is more than just a woman.
