Pastels And Pinks
By Natasha Marathakode Shafi
What would it be like to get out of pastels and pinks
To feel the delight of bold
Leaving colours that faded with times of trying
Leaving those which gave me wings to drown.
Edges all blended, no clear distinction
Where today ends and tomorrow begins.
Would you like to leave behind pastels and pinks to go away with me?
To remove your rose tinted glasses and explore the world of grey.
Solitude of quiet nights and reflecting on mono Mondays.
Holding a delicate butterfly, whose wings enamor
The child within.
Just what would it be like to leave pastels and pinks?
Would you hate the world for what it is?
It's ugly scarred face earning a grimace from you
The singing of sirens no longer heard,
For we are far from the desolation of sea.
Hear the old truth told, we have more to see.
What of those pastels and pinks, that drown your cynic judgment
No clear day just clouded peace, a hush from the wind and no crowd lingers.
You! merry little creature, want me to pull you out of the proposed ways?
Out into the world of the fallen, who took a bite of the apple of Eve,
The sweet nectar of lies that entices the innocent.
Not a web; intricately woven, that we simply accept the delusion.
Just what is your pastels and pinks?
A place to hide from those who are ardently seeking?
An oasis that can never quench your thirst?
A place of alone for you to escape?
Does it let you sit with no disturbing?
Let you sleep without being wary of darkened corners?
Do you feel sick living in the macabre of this world?
Why would you cover yourself with such innocence?
Oh young fool, do you not wish to get out of pastels and pinks?
