Part of Me Is You:

I always thought love would look like a boy,

A whirlwind romance,

A story fit for a fairytale.

But love shows up in the friends I have made along the way,

I see love in their smiles and laughter.

In the ones who I will always love.

Each one has left their own mark on me.

Some marks may be cruder than others

But they are no less loved.

I am a kaleidoscope of them,

And I would not be who I am today without them.

Part of me is the girl who left,

Before we could run through hallways together

Before we had the chance to learn together.

She burned bright,

She taught me to love loudly,

How to let yourself go.

Part of me is the girl who was my opposite,

But never saw that difference as a threat,

Because love does not need to make sense.

Part of me is the girl who was a summer storm:

Kind, then angry, then kind again.

She taught me that love is like a candle,

Sometimes it flickers,

Sometimes it burns wrong,

But it is still there.

Part of me is the girl I met in middle school,

We were a glass of water,

One drop from overflowing;

Laughter too loud,

Feelings hidden beneath heavy smiles.

With her,

Friendship was the blade that cut deep,

But also the Neasporin that soothed the burn.

Part of me is the girl who taught me the power of creativity,

The creation of something from nothing,

A way to twist the rules into art.

Part of me is the girl I met last year,

The one unafraid to tell me the truth,

And who taught me to see the truth.

Part of me is the girl who taught me to be proud of my culture,

While still being who I am.

Part of me is the girl who is a real-life Jane,

Who has porcelain fingers,

Who taught me the power of quiet love.

Part of me is the girls who listened to me cry,

Who answered the same questions on repeat,

And who never gave up on me.

I may not be whole,

But I am a perfect kaleidoscope of us.
