Paper Skin

A poem by Holly Frances Allen.

I’ve always been a writer

But at some point my medium changed.

Turning my skin into paper

Blades into pens

To watch the ink sprawl from my veins.

I’ve always been a writer.

And originally –

it only started with small sentences

that turned into essays

that managed collect into a novel.

I’ve always been a writer.

Binding the pages of my books with bandages

Hiding my stories up sleeves

And secretly adding night by night

Continuing the plight

Of a writer that wrights.
