Overcoming Exam Fever

By Arpit Jain

It’s that time of the year again. Mango trees are bearing fruits and all other trees are shedding their leaves. Days are getting longer and temperature is also gradually soaring. But along with the temperature, stress level is also rising among students. Abandoned playgrounds and parks are common sight during this wave of seasoned disease: The Exam Fever.

Fear of failure along with intense parental pressure and unrealistic comparisons among peers has made Exam stress a pervasive issue in our country.

Exam marks are widely attributed as the sole measure for a one’s success in life.

Long study hours, inadequate sleep, lack of physical exercise and irregular food habits further exaggerate anxiety and stress among students and eventually impacts their academics.

Proper planning and systematic approach should be taken in order to alleviate Exam anxiety. Parents and teachers also need to counsel students to address this extremely crucial yet lesser talked about mental condition. Exam should merely be considered a test for one’s knowledge, skills and abilities instead of a dooms day battle among the students.
