Once Upon A Time

Rain poured heavily,

flaunting her might,

grieving at the uncanny sight.

Dimming daylights, darkening the hour,

skies mourned the loss of a young life

that took a toss.

Under the pine trees gathered a few,

wept they at nature’s fateful call.

Blessings and prayers mouthed in silence,

Wailing, the wind chimed in reciting,

prayers of solace

Earth opened her heart to welcome her child,

mouthing a lullaby as they laid her to rest.

Far at a corner stood a girl,

letting the rain be her tears,

For she had not one left to shed

As they waved off her friend

to her eternal abode.

Days passed easing the grieved

yet for one, she lay alone at night,

for once she smiled at a distant thought

but again wetting the dampened pillow,

uncontrollable gasps paved way

to countless nightmares and sleepless nights.

From the heavens she saw the other weep,

helpless she sat desolate,

unable to comfort her whom she left behind.

Now a story remains untold,

that of two friends

who shared life’s joys and sorrows.

Once on her way back home,

Skipping along deserted pavements,

Humming a note or two,

A scream stopped her dead

Petrified she watched the other

Dragged along by some.

Cried out she with her last of strength,

Yet she ran without a thought

An evil whisper blinder her mind,

“Run “ it bellowed,

And away she ran for life.

Little does she know the one she left behind

Was the one she longs to see,

Weeping she blames it on fate.

And away in heaven the other sat in solitude,

Longing eyes reaching the unreachable,

Unaware that the one for the reason of her plight

Was the very one she held onto.

Now in two worlds apart one mourned the other,

with whom they welcomed seasons together,

shared life’s joy together

once upon a time.
