On Reality & Art
By Azaan Izzam
It is when the worship ends,
that the first world beseeches you.
It is after the alarm is dismissed,
that time begins to run.
Once the buzz from beer dies down,
the test of monotony is reminded by itself and those around you.
It is after the movies and lavish dinners,
that the brunt of reality explodes.
It is after all the theory and the reading,
that responsibility of daily living beckons you.
We are champions at walking far from home,
But we know these jaunts have a small life no matter the number of days.
Small escapades from the catapult of time and reality.
But the world pushes you back into catapult.
Without the fuel of these conquests,
Reality itself becomes stale,
Dry and pastel.
But we champion more than forgettable conquests and expensive exploits in foreign land.
We find courage to counter muted existence with loud acrylic and bright tunes and light.
We topple reality on itself, we dare to exist with heads held high & shoulders broadened.
We laugh right back at reality and dare to see it differently with art.
Our common plight we transform to uplifting experiences.
True power in art.
And we have created the masterpieces, one too many.
We have canvased reality through courage.
And hence we are deemed the king of all species,
Birthing novel perspectives of reality that will restore human sanctity, even if for a moment,
With paint, ink and light.
