Old age

At first there’s light,

all-consuming radiant light …

The pinnacle of youth and success,

the noise its makes feels like forever,

like it will reverberate in the chambers of a lifetime,

… a flicker of light is all it really is,

extinguished by old age.

Fragility remains,

trembling hands …

time once chased by youth,

now captured as borrowed time.

The flicker fights through the darkness,

exceptional I was, must remain …

even with a delicate mind,

this name must find its place in history.

Even with faded vision,

I pray this wisdom will be absorbed by the minds of grandchildren.

The applause of the masses has faded,

only the tiny smiles of faces that looks so much like mine, remain.

Happiness is found in the smallest,

once seemingly insignificant moments.

Flicker of light,

… perhaps that is all that I need.
