Oh Yes I Forgot
By Paramjit Bakhshi
In the middle of my remembering-
I forgot
and I ought not forget
what I forgot.
in all this
you do see
a wish to forget
all remembering.
Still I remember your wishes
Told to me as you left
Yet I wish I would forget,
A zillion small things.
The laburnum avenue as we drive down
exhilarated in escape,
or the fire in the fireplace
Which ignites our passions
As we sit naked
In soul
munching grapes
through locked lips
and unlocked dreams.
Dreams which took us
to silvery beaches
through roads which traversed
not just gardens scented with spice
but just about
the entire nation
of shared experiences.
My hands still yearn
To explore the enchanted
landscape of your being
Beginning at your tresses
malingering
at your lips
And inexhaustibly
through myriad dresses
arriving at the crest of your breasts
and nipples
loathe to leave, yet eager to roam
down the silky road to the
mysterious valley
leading perhaps to
your impenetrable soul.
I still stare in the
Darkest moments of the night
Into the oracle of
Your brown eyes
To fathom how
We can be so close
And still so far.
You live immortal
In this mortal
And fragile frame of mine.
Forgetting you could
Still happen
When I die.
