Oh, My Love

Oh, my love was like a little bird

That nested softly in my soul,

Then spread its wings one autumn dawn

And left me lone and cold.

Oh, my love was like a tender lamb

That wandered from my meadow green,

Chasing distant fields of gold

Beyond the hills unseen.

Oh, my love was like a singing brook

That danced along my guarded heart,

Then swelled with restless storming rains

And tore my banks apart.

Oh, my love was like the evening breeze

That whispered gently through my hair,

Then vanished with the falling dusk

And left an emptiness there.

Oh, my love ...

Oh, my love ...

You were my sweetest melody,

Yet sorrow was your gift to me.
