Oh! Knight
By Keroline
Her eyes dampened as she yearned for some crumb
The rumbling of her stomach made her ears fall numb
Her ailing father on her lap she held
Strangers walked by, not once did they melt.
Food or a morsel will do
Her hungry heart so deeply pined
Not leaving her father to die she whined
Heavens heard the cry and food was on her side.
That child’s face lit to a wholesome glow
As her hand began feeding him slow
She became his mother no more his child
Killed her own hunger to see him delight.
He had his last meal and then their hearts wept
He cupped her tear and closer he slept
As slowly he faded her hands held him tight
She was his knight who fought his last fight!
