Ode To A Soul
By Yengkhom Rajesh Singh
O lovely Virgin Rose!
Thy earthly days are spent;
So leave thy weary frame,
And let her rest in peace.
The tears these thousands shed
Have washed thine unclean self,
And made a hallowed soul,
A part of a greater Whole.
Blessed are those souls,
Parted from their frames;
Freedom from this life
And so art thou, O Rose.
Never weep, O Rose,
For parted frame of thine;
Peacefully she lies
On Nature’s soothing bed.
Neither Man can wake
Nor Natural force can stir;
Deeper is her sleep,
Eternal is her rest.
Every passing day,
Upon this grassy mound,
Flowers will be laid
Lovingly with tears.
Lament but not thy fate,
Lament but not thy life;
Cherish the love of Man,
And cheerful memories.
O lovely Virgin Rose!
It’s sad we never met,
I never saw and heard
Thy living sights and sounds.
Mysterious is the scythe
That cut thy thread of life;
Was it an inner thrust,
Or another brutal hand?
Farewell, dearest Soul!
Fly away to the Place,
Incomprehensible,
Invisible to Man.
