O Mother!

You endured the tormenting pain of your lifetime,

just for me to breathe my life in this world.

Oh, how you’d not bother ‘bout yourself one time,

and had all your worries, far afield you hurled.

All that you’ve gone through, the pain and the mourning,

was to see me smile and happy in all my being.

Every struggle you would bear in the morning,

is to lead me to a cheerful day I’d be seeing.

You’ve been the one to teach me right and wrong,

so I’d never be shamed, but could hold my head high.

You’ve been the one to grip my hand amid the throng,

and seize me from falling a prey to any lie.

All my worries with you, I have forever parted,

and you’ve been heeding with all your forbearance.

You’d wipe all my tears and ensure that it has departed,

despite I’d have not bestowed you my adherence.

Nobody could comprehend and upkeep me like you do---

You’d burned the midnight oil while I was sick and ailing.

You’ve told me “Be fervent my child and yourself you could woo!”

You’ve been the one to be beside me and forever you had me hailing.

Wherever in this world I might have gone,

but I’d always want to return to your side.

Because forever I know in your heart is my throne,

And for you, O mother! My love is as profound and wide.
