Nostalgia

I watched my wall one night,

And saw your braids tangled in mine,

In the polaroid that hangs upside down,

And the nostalgia washed me seventeen years down.

I remember your smile drowning my sorrows,

And your hand in mine promising better tomorrows,

The feel of your head in the hollow of my shoulder,

As we watched the clouds smirk and smolder.

The best déjà vu of those teenage days,

Is the smell of roses that always adorned your embrace,

And when you couldn’t pull me out of the quicksand,

You’d jump in so we could sink hand in hand.

Now I make a promise to you,

To clear your clouds and paint your skies so blue,

To be your floodgates when the rivers rush in,

And to let go of my heart when yours gets broken.
