Entry 2
No mercy for Jane Doe
Mercy has reservations
Not for the righteous
Nor for the innocent
Without a solitary question for
A westerner’s descendent
Mercy has reservations
Not for the virtuous
Nor for those without blame
Turning a monster into a “sportsman with a bright future”
Not giving his victims the courtesy that’s the same
Mercy has reservations
But not the kind that we were taught
Not a system that is fair or just
Instead, the victim becomes the damned
Put on display for the court
Mercy has reservations
A luxury conveniently earmarked
For those born with skin that’s pale
No mercy for the casualty
Especially not a female
Mercy has reservations
The kind that tears you down
& shatters every ideal you have ever known
Watching the system reverse the roles
Where mercy, alone, to the perpetrator is shown
