no love is ever lost

my great grandmother still wears her wedding ring

my father keeps my mother’s dresses because they still smell like her

i make popcorn the way my brother did

despite me loving a sweeter flavour

there is something to be said about the ways in which love persists

in loss, we keep it in the life lines we tied together

in the imprints we leave on each other’s hearts

in the morning air we shared in the garden

to love you is to keep a fingerprint of your existence

lining the rims of our coffee cups

circling the circumference of my soul

a wedding ring

a dress

a meal

we share it

i am with you

you are there
