Newfound Dawn
By Subhagata Chowdhury
The sun never shone so bright
Or never so tranquil was the night,
The rose never bloomed with such grace-
I am enamored in this newfound light.
The moon is calm and forgiving
My brows smooth and not aching
I have drowned in this long forgotten happiness!
I am drawn to this inexplicable liking.
The warmth that my heart has yearned
The countless strings that it has burnt,
Never knew I could get them back this way-
That I could ever end this manic hunt.
Oh dear! If only did you know?
My blood and its ecstatic flow,
Would be joyous too as I am today?
Or would you just let it slip and go?
Your eyes- a pool of boundless care,
Seek my soul and end my despair
And snuff out any flames of anguish in me
Gifting a benign breath of fresh air.
The North Star that I have longed for!
How much I did want to end this war
And all at once did you appear before me
Gave me light, hope and many more!
You, a creation of heavens so loveable
Your smile, so assuring and affable,
I’d let the Reaper kill me a hundred times
Than to take a hurt this gullible.
But I don’t want to end this any soon
I have tasted love and tasted its boon,
Lord, please don’t make the knell chime
Don’t throw me in the arid dunes!
Because I have found my new dawn!
And with it all my woes are gone.
I want to indulge in this brazen game of love,
I want it to fly like a majestic swan.
And as I continue to compliment you,
I know in my heart you love me too,
My heart now burns with the flame of love-
As you’ve become me and I’ve become you!
