Never Waking
By Amanda Antoinette Rebello
Open your eyes to tremendous possibilities
All swirling before your mildly awakened state, in galaxies amongst the eternally extricated cosmos.
A joyous childlike fantastical giddy joviality of just being or maybe just dreamless slumber.
But then those visions fade as reality slowly trickles back in obscuring fantastical illusions all forgotten allusions.
A simple wayward thought, dying in defeatish exclamation of incapability with reluctant foresight a marginally conscious "Oh!".
A feeling of radiating hollowness from the center of a rapidly rising and sinking chest conjuring a void of unknown depths.
Then the nausea climbs from the bottom of your gut festering like a terrifying storm brewing on the horizon.
And then the world starts to crumble, as your vision fades blurred by puddles in unopen palms pressed against unseen eyes.
Exhausted, you lay down again and pull those sheets above your head, eyes closed, an impenetrable fortress and just lie there never waking, dreaming beautiful nightmares.
