Never Ending War
By Suman Behera
One thing
One thing that they agreed on
Was to believe that she would never leave
But she did, plunging them into the same old war
One, bleeding himself out in grief
The other, thinking of how to heal to scar.
HEAD:
The intoxicating feeling of joy
The way made yourself less cold
The way you let her burn and melt the ice, turning you unexpectedly coy
Did you think it was bold?
Now you know it was not, it was on yourself that you lost all hold.
HEART:
What could I have possibly done?
How gracefully she knocked down these walls
The inside of me in a very long time saw the sun
And I found myself in a place full of roses and seagulls.
HEAD:
I gave you a warning
You have been hurt before, I reminded you, not again.
Never did you pay heed, all you heard was that melody she seemingly used to sing
My every effort to hold you back went in vain.
HEART:
I am so very sorry, that is all I can say
The trust that was built after so long crumpled like paper in no time.
With the lines and boundaries so blurred, I could not find a way out
Other than to live through the illusion of forever that she cemented with her pretentious idea to stay.
I tried to play dead, obscure and buried.
But she took me in her hands, turning me into this living, feeling and caring;
Trampled piece of slime.
HEAD:
I tried to wake you up,
From that oxidizing world of a dream
But you were in this pathetic trance, thinking you found someone that can make you complete.
Now this gaping hole of loneliness that you have,
Can never be filled with people or dimes.
I might just let this tyrannical crime slide
Letting you walk out of here alive
But next time you mess up-
I will punch you in the face and shoot you five times.
