Naive Love

It’s always going to be you.

Today, tomorrow, five years from now,

I will always find myself coming back to you,

Looking for you behind shop windows,

Or inside the cars passing by.

It will always be you with brown eyes,

In your blue dress. Always

The way you hold my hand back when I hold yours;

Interlocked, like the little futures we built together,

Now out of reach.

I am trying to convince myself it’s enough

We fell in love once, and I’m still failing.

You have gone far away to somewhere I’ll never find,

While I’m still in the middle of loving you

And saying goodbye.

Tell me, what do you call a love you almost had?

A love that almost stayed?
