My Midnight Invaders
By Vijay Tita
At the outset of small hours post-midnight
Against the dense darkness with pride,
The flickering lamplight fights with all its might.
On a cozy pillow lies my heavy head to repose
In the quest of serenity, to sleep I strive a lot
As in the journey I encounter the invisible foes.
Those screams of the dead silence often I hear
When they break into my head with spears
And assault on my slumber so frail without fear.
Neither one nor ten, it’s a staggering swarm,
A shemozzle of thoughts which brings the storm
And keeps me awake many a times till the dawn.
Born of blunders and regrets, wearing distress;
The rhythm of the beats in the heart they easily mess
As they make inroads to dig out the rubies I possess.
The province of peace in the mind they invade,
Vindictive and cruel in nature, never easily they escape,
With malignant desires, like rulers they masquerade.
Wounded by fierce stabs, still unbeaten I fall flat
Craving for a nap, amid this clash, unbowed I combat;
Belittling my strength and tolerance they repent.
With strong resilience I rise for relentless defiance,
Trifling tormentors I chop into pieces in silence
As they brutally beat my nerves and act like tyrants.
In the dark, the deadly delusions wound me the most,
My beliefs they deny as with the evidence they boast,
And haunt me until the dawn like a scary ghost.
Worries I blow away in a shot as the stress they induce
Though sweating in cold, I dare to deracinate their roots.
But the ones who remain undefeated are the bitter truths.
