My Hair

Updated: Aug 28

By Amee Laheru

My hair is a timeline.

It represents a history of

Stress and resulted

grey in contemporary.

I have cut off the length.

As It carries comfort

for the upcoming Journey.

It has cacophony

Of people's remarks on it.

Why beauty determines by

looks and not integrity.

Why there is a compulsion

to set my hair with

The comb of social beauty standards.

I want my hair

to stay open and free.

Let it be real.

I want to flaunt it

unapologetically.

Let it be strong

with my boldness.

My hair is present

to the character I've built

Through history.
